The authentic mountain village of Samoëns is a short distance from the glacial cirque of Fer à Cheval, one of the most splendid limestone sites in the Alps.

Samoëns has remained unspoilt by tourist developments. Samoëns together with its nine surrounding hamlets, all situated at about 700 metres above sea level, not only has an exceptionally rich heritage, but also a thriving life throughout the year.

Activities

Winter

There are many opportunities for hiking and in winter the ski-pistes are just across the valley. It takes 5 minutes by car to the cable-car. You can also drive to Samoëns 1600. It is possible to go directly to the ski area from the village. The ski possibilities are tremendous: five villages are connected: Samoëns, Morillon, Sixt, Les Carroz and Flaine. More than 260 kilometers of ski-pistes.

Summer

In summer there are many possibilities for hiking in all directions, short hikes, half-day or more. The GR 5 (Grande Randonnée track from north to the south of France) goes through Samoëns. Also climbing, rafting and hang-gliding.

By car you can drive the little mountain roads and visit Chamonix, Martigny and (the lake of) Geneva.
